You may need to unplug two coolant hoses to loosen the pipe away from the egr valve mounting rods. The juddering and revs at 1100pm now only occur when the car is idling cold. If warm, on idle the revs sit nicely at 700rpm, although if you accelerate it does rumble as you pass 1100rpm.
\n\n golf mk4 1.6 sr common problems
I've owned 9 different VW Golf Mk4 models over the last 20 years so got to know a few of the common issues & problems. Many of the problems are now due to the age of the cars and not mechanical
SOURCE: starting problems golf mk4 1.6 petrol There is a part between the air intake manifold and the air box on your engine, it's usually black on a golf, will look like a 15cm tube around 80-90mm in diameter with a plugged wire leading into it, this is your MAF sensor or MASS AIR FLOW sensor and if dirty / faulty can cause an incorrect temp reading from the air intake and cause rough engine

Hi there, I'm no professional by any means but one part of the problem seems to be a wiring fault with the power steering. Could be causing power loss which drags your RPM down, causing it to stall out. Just a thought Hope it helps!

Re: Immobiliser Random Fail - MK4 Golf – 02-09-2008, 10:47 PM. What I tend to do now is put the key in, turn it to position 2 & wait a few seconds to see if the immobiliser light flashes, if not then start the car, if it does take the key out & try again, saves firing the car up for a second or so, must save a bit on petrol too! 0 0 0.

I had a 150 mile motorway journey today though and managed an average of 46 mpg! I was taking it easy though, doing 55-60 mph the whole way [H] [:$] thanks all! my punto 1.2 before my golf did quite abit better obviously so just wondered if it was the car or was the norm for a 1.6! oh well its worth it! I have been asked to fix a friends Golf MK4 1.6 automatic which has a cooling problem. It has aircon and both cooling fans appear to be running virtually all the time even when the aircon is switched off. When you run the car the fans will cut in within a few minutes, even in cold weather, and they remain running after the car is switched off. Nah, its a 1.6 16V MKIV, don't think FSi cam ein those cars. And I'm preety sure that the 1.6 16V engine in the MKIV is not deisgned to run on specifcally 98 RON fuel, unlike S3 / R32 would be. 95ROZ is 98RON, IMO. Therefore, if its designed to run on 98ROZ that must be like 101RON or soemthing which is daft.
Hi guys, sorry to jump on board this thread but my 1998 VW golf 1.6 SE also failed it’s MOT today on emissions . My golf is high mileage at 182,658 but she runs very well and is up and down the M3 as part of my daily 56 mile commute. It failed across all the emission tests and results were: Fast Idle 1 CO % Vol 4.242 HC ppm vol 883 Lambda 0.871
